A s people age, the effects of gravity, exposure to the sun, and stresses of daily life can be seen in their faces. Deep creases form between the nose and mouth; the jawline grows slack and jowly; folds and fat deposits appear around the neck.
The effect of this operation usually lasts about five to ten years. The complication rate is low and there is minimal post operative pain. Usually, the swelling and spotty black and blue discoloration settles down within ten days to two weeks, at which time the patient is socially presentable.

It is intended primarily at giving a patient a smoother jaw line, as well as neckline. This procedure can be done as an outpatient under local anesthesia and IV sedation. It usually takes about 2-3 hours.
Incisions usually begin above the hairline at the temples, follow the natural line in front of the ear, curve behind the earlobe into the crease behind the ear, and into or along the lower scalp.
Facial, neck tissue and muscle may be separated; fat may be trimmed or suctioned and underlying muscle may be tightened.
After deep tissue are tightened, the excess skin is pulled back, trimmed and sutured into place.
The incisions are well hidden and friends and acquaintances will usually notice an improved appearance that they will attribute to a change of hairstyle, vacation or weight loss without realizing the person has undergone an operation of this sort. Postoperative care is minimal and a smooth recovery can usually be anticipated.
