Dr. James Foley M.D.; F.A.C.S.

This operation, otherwise known as mastopexy, is aimed at reconfiguring a breast that has become too droopy either following pregnancy or weight loss. This lifts the volume of the breast to a higher level and tightens the skin to make the breast "perky" and more firm.

This is usually done under local anesthesia and IV sedation on an outpatient basis. A woman can usually be back to normal activities within a week or so. The complication rate is low with this procedure and returns the woman's breasts to a more youthful appearance.

Incisions outline the area of skin to be removed and the new position for the nipple.

The nipple is elevated to a higher level and the skin re shaped around it. Sutures close the incisions, giving the breast its new contour.

After surgery, the breasts are higher and firmer, with sutures usually located around the areola, below it, and in the crease under the breast.
