Recontouring the abdominal region is usually sought to correct the after effects of pregnancy or significant weight loss. The procedure is done under general anesthesia and is done as a outpatient procedure.

The surgery corrects abdominal muscle laxity to give a much improved profile as well as removing excess skin and lower abdominal scarring or stretch marks.

Postoperatively a patient will typically avoid heavy lifting, pushing or pulling, aggressive aerobics or contact sports for at least a month to a month and a half and will be wearing an abdominal binder for about three to four weeks postoperatively as well as for abdominal support and proper healing.

The scar is usually located in the bikini line and this procedure can be combined with suction-assisted lipectomy to give an overall improvement in the shaping of the torso as well.
